Poppy King

I am an artist fascinated with the relationship between human beings and the natural world.

‘Learn to see. Realise that everything connects to everything else.’ - Leonardo da Vinci

My portfolio is primarily made up of drawings: charcoal, pencil and pen, used intuitively to create surreal portraits entwined with nature, a culmination of the figurative and abstract.
My art explores the interconnectedness humans share with seemingly all things, discovered through the repetition of forms and patterns that recur within the natural world and human body: there is fundamental law in nature’s geometry that defines the physiology of species and classes, alluding to the idea of homogeneity.
I hope to shed light on the human condition and our position in nature, while inviting the viewer to contemplate their own bodily organism in a new perspective.
My drawings are expressive, infused with darkness and the macabre; involuntarily permeated with the residual grief we collectively feel as a species whose stewardship of the planet seems to have gone wrong.
